Sustainable Blue Atlantic salmon are raised on land in Nova Scotia, Canada. Sustainable Blue’s proprietary aquaculture systems and processes replicate the best possible conditions of the ocean ecosystem without any of the negative environmental impact and risks typically associated with conventional ocean-based fish farming operations. Sustainable Blue takes special care to make sure their farms are disease-free and are, therefore, antibiotic and chemical-free. Before fresh ocean water is added to the tanks, it is sterilized to prevent the introduction of bacteria or viruses. After the hatchery process, the smolts are meticulously screened for disease before they enter the ocean water tanks. The fish are raised on an organic feed produced by Skretting, the global leader in aquaculture feed. All organic effluent from the farm is stored on land and will eventually be used for agricultural fertilizer.
